Online portal “Collections from colonial contexts” of the German Digital Library

The online portal “Collections from colonial contexts” of the German Digital Library offers central access to digitised collections from colonial contexts held by cultural and scientific institutions in Germany. Users can search for collection items from formal colonial rule as well as from areas in which informal colonial structures prevailed or which were under the informal influence of colonial powers. The portal has been developed in close collaboration with 25 German cultural heritage institutions and experts from the countries of origin. The basis for establishing the portal was provided by the “Framework Principles for Dealing with Collections from Colonial Contexts” and the “Guidelines for a 3-road strategy on the documentation and digital publication of collections from colonial contexts held in Germany”. 

The online portal can be accessed free of charge in German, English and French since July 2024 at: https://ccc.deutsche-digitale-bibliothek.de/en. No login or registration is required.
