Object description
This information was provided by the German museum where the object is currently located or where it was located prior to restitution.

Object Name Copper alloy sculpture dedicated to Oba Ewuare, who is depicted here flanked by two dignitaries
Description The poorer quality of this figural group suggests that it may have been produced for sale after 1897. It depicts the Oba (king) Ewuare, who ruled in the 15th century. He is often depicted being supported by two dignitaries (the crown prince and the chief army commander). Thus, he is a telling symbol of a sacerdotal Oba who can by no means rule autocratically, but depends on the support of various segments of the population, for whom he also bears supreme responsibility. Text: Dietmar Neitzke.
